Raised Embroidery flower Snowdrop Project One

This is to review from memory on a project completed today.
Further posts should be more like a diary of work as it goes along.
This project convinced me of two things:
1. I need to keep a journal of progress.
2. I need to complete the work on my City and Guilds Accredited Textiles level one.

This project was planned and intended as a birthday gift. It is from an article in Inspirations magazine, issue 76 (November 2012)

My Take-Away:

  • Practice stitches at least once before trying to start the project.
  • Regarding the leaves on this project: detached buttonhole stitch.
    • Space the alternate colour sewing thread exactly 2mm, and use the spacing to space the foundation row evenly.
    • Use card to draw the shape, and place the plastic contact paper on the side with the ink. No need to use tracing paper + interfacing. Use tracing paper + clear OR drawn lines + clear.
    • When using beads that are to have the wire through, check for diameter of the hole before creating any stitches. If it isn't fitting, think through the engineering aspect first, then start sewing accounting for the adjustments you will need to make.
    • Find narrow gauge wire that will fit in the bead better.
  • Take copious photos of each step and notes on each photo.

Plan: Start a second identical snowdrop in January, timing to get a third one made prior to May (Federation show 2020?)

Close thoughts.
What's next? Stag using silk gimp and possibly other lovelies.
